Parish organizations under the Ministry Board:
Angels for Life works for the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death. They hold six meetings yearly, sponsor monthly Holy Hours, and participate in other events promoting the sanctity of life.
Angels on Call is a caring group available and accessible by phone chains for dinners, car rides for kids, helping with yard work, grocery shopping or any other needs a GA family might need with a very sick family member or other critical family situation.
Arimatheans is a group of parishioners who represent the parish at funeral services. Their main purpose is to offer consolation to the bereaved. This is especially appreciated when only a few members of the family of the deceased are able to be present.
Cookie Ministry bakes, wraps, and provides homemade cookies each week to the Peanut Butter Group for distribution to the needy in the Over the Rhine area.
Ecumenism Ministry helps foster relationships between the parish and other churches in the area.
Fellowship Sunday is the group that organizes coffee and donuts after the 8:00 & 10:00 Masses on the third Sunday of the month.
Friends for Friends offers spiritual and financial services to children of our school and their families experiencing catastrophic illness or major loss.
Grief Support Ministry is a group of people coming together to share their grief experiences with others who have lost a loved one through death. Meetings are twice a month on the first and third Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Infertility Support Group is committed to supporting couples navigating the emotional road of infertility. They reach out to those in need either individually or in groups.
Knitting Ministry consists of parishioners who come together to knit and pray at 10:00 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Each member will knit a shawl and pray for a special person, such as someone who is sick, homebound, a new mother, etc. Shawls are blessed by Fr. King before being given to the recipient.
Legion of Mary is a lay society which reaches out to the shut-ins of the parish, whether at home or in nursing homes. They also help to interest people in joining or returning to the Catholic Church. Weekly meetings are held on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
Marriage and Family Ministry educates and promotes natural family planning as a safe, healthy, effective and morally acceptable way to postpone or achieve pregnancy. Couples who practice NFP find that periodic abstinence helps keep their relationship fresh, improves their communication, and gives them a deeper respect for each other. They are also active in promoting Catholic Family Values through various activities during the year.
Mission/Twinning Group embraces the mandate “to preach the gospel to all nations,” on several levels. We support prayerfully and financially St. Mary’s of the Angels in New Orleans. On a national level, we support outreach by local mission groups by providing clothing to their outreach sites. On an international level, we hold fund raisers to support the work of our missionaries in other parts of the world. Bulletin notices and an annual speaker serve as regular reminders of this outreach. A semi-monthly meeting is held to plan and coordinate activities.
Parish Nurses and health professionals who have a concern for the health of our parishioners come together to sponsor blood pressure screenings and other simple health-related events.
Peanut Butter Group gathers every Tuesday morning in the basement of the Rectory to make hundreds of peanut butter and bologna sandwiches for delivery to St. Francis Church in Over the Rhine. Juice boxes and cookies are also provided which enables St. Francis Church to pack lunches for the many day workers who are employed downtown. The group is supported primarily by donations from the parish. Those interested need not be able to attend every week.
Stephen Ministry at Guardian Angels equips lay persons to provide distinctly Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing significant difficulties. The purpose of Stephen Ministry is not to tell people how to handle their problems, but to listen and offer support. Confidentiality is assured.
St. Vincent de Paul Society gives direct aid to the poor and needy by providing physical, mental, and spiritual relief, and the foundation for initiating self-improvement. Their work is confidential. Support comes from donations and church collections. Those in need can call the Parish Office or the 24-hour help line at 624-3147. Meetings are every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Vocations Committee is dedicated to helping those discerning a vocation and educating children and young adults about vocations to religious life. In addition to First Friday Adoration, a traveling crucifix may be hosted in one’s home for a week of prayers for vocations.
Women’s Faith Sharing meets on the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month. This group offers women an opportunity to reflect on Sacred Scripture together in light of their experiences as Catholic women.
